The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law: A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, Reverent.
What Does Troop 1 Offer?
In 1910, Dan Beard founded Boy Scouts Troop 1 in Flushing, New York, which is believed to be one of the oldest continuously chartered Boy Scout Troop in the United States. Our Troop believes in leadership development through its outdoor program. Scouting is about going into a camping environment and learning to work collectively. We hold monthly camping trips, some of which are to our own property in West Hurley, NY. We also provide a diversity of camps that are chosen by the boys. The program is designed to provide activities that attract the boys such as archery, canoeing, and high adventure while also teaching the skills of cooking, first aid, outdoor skills, leadership, and citizenship. Our outings give the boys the chance to learn interdependence among their patrol and troop members.

Troop 1 Alum Experiences
Many of our alumni have made friends and connections that have lasted a lifetime and have been able to continue this bond through the "Old Timers Club"; our alumni network.
Scouts applying to college have found that they are more competitive because of their leadership and interpersonal skills. With the outdoors as our classroom, we teach what schools cannot.
